Objectives and competences

Objectives

- Get to know the natural processes that regulate the Earth's climate system over geological time.
- Become familiar with the main sources of palaeoclimatic information and their time frames.
- Understand the construction of age models to date past geological events.
- Learn about key past climate changes to contextualize and better understand current climate change.
- Learn about the human footprint in the geological record.
- Develop scientific communication skills to transmit palaeoclimatic knowledge in a rigorous manner and combat denialist arguments with an empirical basis.

Recommended applicant profile

The course is aimed mainly at secondary school teachers, communicators and disseminators of climate change-related content. As well as for people who work in the field of current climate change and want to deepen their knowledge of past climate changes (climatologists, ecologists, data scientists, public administration personnel working on adaptation or mitigation).

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
