Objectives and competences
Humanitarian crises involve large-scale health crises. Emergency medical aid is necessary to care for people affected by armed conflicts, epidemics and natural disasters and those excluded from healthcare, and it is of paramount importance to have good knowledge about essential preventive measures and the provision of more basic medical care. This course introduces the most essential components in the response to humanitarian emergencies while addressing the diverse range of challenges and dilemmas that arise in such contexts. It also explores how leading humanitarian organizations achieve positive results in reducing mortality, morbidity and suffering.

Objectives
- To acquire a solid foundation of knowledge of essential preventive measures as well as how to provide the most basic medical care.
- To recognize the most essential components in the response to humanitarian emergencies and, in turn, to be able to address a diverse range of challenges and dilemmas.

Recommended applicant profile
- People with basic knowledge of the humanitarian context and global coordination mechanisms (desirable for the basic level of the course).- People with a medical background that will help them understand the medical priorities and clinical definitions in the field, although this is not a mandatory requirement.
Access requirements and conditions
