Objectives and competences

This course focuses on the general regime of public services, analyzing its transformations and perspectives, including the opening to regulated markets. It addresses both local and national services, with an emphasis on specific sectors such as transport, integral water cycle, telecommunications or waste management. The European experience is the central point, as well as the characteristics of the American reality. It is aimed mainly at graduates and young professionals in Latin America, where access to these services is crucial.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

- Understand the general regime of public services, their evolution and transformation over time, with special attention to the opening of sectors to regulated markets.
- Analyse the fundamental principles and methods of managing public services at both local and national level, framed in the European experience and the particularities of the Latin American context.
- To explore in depth specific sectors of public services such as transport, the integral water cycle, telecommunications and waste management, understanding their regulation and current challenges.
- Reflect on the future prospects and challenges of public regulation in an environment of increasing competition and transformation of essential public services

Applicant profile and access requirements

Recommended applicant profile

Mainly, graduates and young professionals interested in the regulation and management of public services. Graduates in Law, but also in Political Sciences, Economics and Sociology.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
