This course includes the following contents: Tropical Pathology; control of outbreaks and infectious diseases; prevention, preparedness and response in health with scarce resources in the face of outbreaks, epidemics and acute public health events (emergencies) of international importance; field epidemiology and "one health"; evidence-based medicine and field operations research.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

To acquire training to be able to prevent, manage, control and respond to the most frequent problems in tropical and infectious pathology that occur in the bioregions of South America.

Specific objectives:
- Acquire basic knowledge about the most prevalent diseases in South America related to tropical and subtropical pathology for their diagnosis, management and rehabilitation.
- To acquire the basic knowledge for the prevention, preparation and control of the main infectious syndromes and diseases in South America.
- Acquire knowledge on aspects of epidemiology, public health and health management in order to participate in health intervention and research projects in the intertropical zone.

- Civil servants in the area of public health.
- Civil servants who work in the control of infectious diseases.
- Health personnel from the public and private sectors interested in the control of infectious diseases and tropical pathologies.
- Military personnel working in health in tropical and subtropical areas.
- Professionals from the academic sector interested in tropical medicine and the control of infectious diseases.
- Health professionals practicing in endemic and at-risk areas in tropical medicine.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
