Objectives and competences

Objectives

The general objective of this Master's Degree is to study in depth a portion of criminal, political and sociological knowledge that is profoundly forgotten by traditional knowledge, such as the field of critical criminological theory. The Master's Degree is an update of the topics that traditional Criminology never addressed and, on the other hand, it develops knowledge of contemporary globalization such as green criminology, the paradigm of social damage, structural violence and crimes of States and Markets. Likewise, the Master's Degree considers the problems of punishment and, more specifically, that related to the deprivation of personal liberty. Traditionally, hegemonic knowledge has not focused clearly on the dimension that qualifies criminal law itself, such as the scope of punishment. Criminal law is called like this precisely because of the punitive dimension that characterizes it; however, this same dimension has not received the scientific and academic attention it deserves. Therefore, this master's degree aims to immerse students in all those folds that constitute the interstices of contemporary problems and also with a profound interdisciplinary dimension that affects the knowledge of the present. The critical paradigm and a socio-legal epistemological approach are the pillars of this course.
