Objectives and competences
The human microbiota plays an essential role in the health and well-being of our body. It contributes to the digestion of food, the synthesis of certain vitamins, the regulation of metabolism, the maturation and modulation of the immune system, protection against pathogens, and interacts with the nervous system, among other functions. The study of the human microbiota is an ever-evolving field of research that has important implications for public health. For this reason, the development of strategies aimed at modifying the composition and function of the microbiota is key.
