Objectives and competences

This course is intended for people who have studied Hungarian for at least one year or preferably 18 months. Students will consider aspects related to daily life, such as free time, professions and housing. Classes are interactive and emphasize the production of spoken language. Students will also develop other skills, including listening comprehension and written production. Students are given homework, including interactive tasks to practise grammar.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

Referring to knowledge:
- Achieve a solid understanding of intermediate-level Hungarian grammar and contrastive analysis, in particular pronunciation, reading, morphology and sentence types.
- Learn to understand and produce written texts in Hungarian at an intermediate level.
- Be able to describe the phonetic, grammatical and lexical structures of Hungarian at an intermediate level.

Referring to abilities, skills:
- Demonstrate the proficiency acquired in spoken or written communication.
- Understand and translate basic and intermediate Hungarian texts.
- Be able to write short, simple texts in Hungarian.
- Learn to produce basic and intermediate spoken interactions.

Referring to attitudes, values and norms:
- Promote respect for a diversity of viewpoints, provided that they are well founded and cogently presented.
- Develop a greater sensitivity to intercultural communication.
- Value the enriching nature of contact between different languages and cultures.
- Value the enriching nature of contact between people.
- Develop a respect for the social, cultural and gender implications of linguistic diversity.

Recommended applicant profile

People interested in Hungarian language who have reached level A.2.1. or have studied the language for at least one year or preferably 18 months.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
