Objectives and competences

This course analyses the sociocultural context of Barcelona through the lens of food to understand the complexities generated by migratory processes. It explores the origins of "national" cuisines and examines how food culture has always been shaped by immigration and trade. Providing an in-depth look into the migratory landscape of Barcelona, it uses food to discuss questions related to personal and collective identity, adaptation, assimilation, adjustment, authenticity and fusion. Additionally, it offers a tour of the city's food landscape today and takes a detailed look at the influences of immigration and globalization.
