Objectives and competences

The expert degree in Bookstore Management is a specialized online training course for people with experience in the world of bookshops, organized by the UB's Bookstore School and the result of the collaboration of the Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media and the Booksellers' Guild of Catalonia, made possible thanks to the iCEC (Catalan Institute of Cultural Enterprises)Active Bookshop Programme of the of the Government of Catalonia's Ministry of Culture.

Objectives

- To learn about the Catalan, Spanish and European legal framework that affects the bookshop sector.
- To understand administrative and accounting issues related to the bookshop sector.
- To learn and deepen knowledge of logistic aspects that affect the bookstore sector.
-To learn and deepen knowledge of stock control and storeroom management in the bookstore sector.
- To learn and deepen knowledge of economic aspects and the profitability of bookstores.
- To learn and deepen knowledge of economic, financial, tax and treasury management of bookstores.
- To learn about the computer programmes and systems used to manage a bookstore's stock.
- To learn about resources and tools for bibliographic information, localization and selection.
- To become familiar with the basic principles of customer care, particularly in the bookstore sector.
- To learn and deepen knowledge of relationships with the government: in participation in competitions and tenders, applications for grants and subsidies, and participation in activities organized by government bodies.
- In short, acquire the knowledge and skills required to immediately join any kind of bookstore-related business.

Access requirements: Academic transcript and professional curriculum vitae, which must be submitted with a motivation letter.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
