Objectives and competences

The course "New Topics on Intercultural Communication in the Hispanic World" aims to provide up-to-date, comprehensive training on the core principles of intercultural communication with members of Spanish-speaking communities, with an emphasis on application and practicality. The ultimate goal is for students to be able to develop and coordinate business, economic, cultural, diplomatic, and other initiatives with people, institutions, entities, and countries in a worldwide community of almost 600 million people.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

- Understanding of the characteristics of Spanish-speaking communities in their various forms, from modern-day Spain to the idiosyncrasies of Spanish-American countries, to the study of Hispanics in the United States.

- Multicultural interaction training based on the theoretical knowledge that underpins this type of exchange  and previously established techniques and experiences.


- Analysis of successful experiences in multicultural settings or projects with Spanish-speaking partners, and the development of forward-looking proposals.

Recommended applicant profile

International students (Asia, North America, Europe, etc.) from non-Spanish-speaking countries with prior training in communication, cultural industries, mediation and/or international relations, business, languages, etc., who want to learn specific skills for project management and promotion, as well as cultural, economic, business, and political relations, with global stakeholders in the Spanish-speaking world (European and American).

The master's degree is taught in 80% English and 20% Spanish, with the latter used for linguistic-communicative training. Non-English speaking students must have a B2 level of English and an A2 level of Spanish to be admitted to the master's degree. IELTS, Cambridge, TOEFL, and other credentials will be recognized as proof of English level. Spanish language accreditation is based on a DELE diploma from the Instituto Cervantes.

Students without Spanish language accreditation but with informal knowledge of the language may be admitted on the condition that they enrol in and complete a refresher course of at least 40 hours in Spanish for international students at the University of Barcelona before the start of the master's degree teaching period.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
