Objectives and competences

This is an introductory course to Global Mental Health, which aims to be a stimulating forum for discussion on mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) as a global problem in need of local solutions. It combines theoretical sessions with practical exercises based on real-life scenarios.
International and European experts from clinical, community, research, public health (WHO/PAHO) and humanitarian (MSF) settings will participate in the discussion of the main current challenges and priorities in global mental health.

Objectives

- To compare and analyse the most appropriate approaches for the development, implementation and evaluation of mental health and psychosocial support programmes.
- To assess the multi-layered, interdisciplinary and intersectoral components in the organization of optimal mental health and psychosocial support services.
- To adopt an integrated view of mental health and psychosocial support as a cross-cutting component in the field of global health.

Graduate students and professionals in global health and other related disciplines with an interest in global mental health.

Access requirements and conditions

The course is also open to students with no prior university education, who will acquire the same knowledge and skills and receive a specific qualification for their learner group. Information on the access requirements and other conditions can be obtained from the course directors.
