Objectives and competences
This course is structured into two topics:
1) Concepts in (micro)economics and their application in health and healthcare: It includes the perspective of how markets work, why markets may not function optimally and what are the primary interventions available to correct market failures. The role of equity approaches in decision-making will also be addressed.
2) Health economic assessment: its rationale, its main components, the role of decision models and uncertainty. Students will learn to critically appraise health interventions from an economic evaluation perspective.
