Objectives and competences

This master's degree's first edition was in the 1991-1992 academic year. It is aimed at undergraduates or graduates in psychology or medicine (or students who have up to 10% of credits pending), who wish to deepen the psychoanalytical model of development and the psychopathological understanding of its alterations, as well as to enter clinical practise. By the end of the course, students will have acquired the basic knowledge they need to undertake clinical work with children and adolescents, launch their professional careers and access further training in the field.

Objectives and competences

Objectives

- To specialise in providing clinical care to infants, children and adolescents taking into account the importance of this stage of life in the building of the subject's future.
- To acquire the theoretical and diagnostic skills to address situations in which emotional development may be affected and lead to pathological issues.
- Special emphasis will be put on personality and behavioural changes.
- To identify the main theoretical and technical models of psychoanalytic psychotherapy for children, adolescents and their families.
- To discuss therapeutic strategies through consideration of clinical cases.
- To gain a general introduction to clinical care and technical resources for clinical practice.
- To learn how the healthcare network works for child and adolescent mental health.
- To learn to identify an object of study and research in a clinical setting.

Graduates of degrees in psychology or medicine (or students who will obtain the degree at the end of the current academic year) who would like to acquire a more detailed understanding of psychoanalytic theory and its application to work with newborns, children and adolescents.
