Objectives and competences

The course is aimed at anyone who works in the training and education of children, young people and the population at large and seeks to improve their professional practice in order to contribute to advancing towards the ecological transition from their educational institution. The course features an interdisciplinary teaching staff with experts from the scientific, social and educational fields. The seminars follow active methodologies and combine theoretical contributions with exercises and case studies. Enrollees must be willing to participate actively in the seminars and work in groups. Objectives and competences


- Complement and enrich training as an expert in the field of education interested in working on socio-environmental issues related to this field.
- Enhance your skills as an early childhood education teacher; primary education teacher; secondary school teacher; educator in a scientific, social or cultural field; journalist or person working in communication and scientific or social outreach; or an expert at a public agency or private organization with responsibilities in the sphere of education and dissemination.
- To better understand current problems such as plastics, biodiversity and climate change.
- To approach the aforementioned problems from a complex perspective, considering social, scientific, cultural and environmental aspects.
- To identify and analyse active teaching methodologies, dissemination, citizen communication and community participation as appropriate strategies to work on sustainability in education institutions.
- To be able to design, develop and assess educational projects from a specified perspective.

Applicant profile and access requirements

Recommended applicant profile

Education professionals (teachers in early childhood, primary education teachers, secondary school teachers, educators, teachers in any area and educational institution). Priority will be given to candidates with a bachelor's or master's degree in the field of education or duly documented and justified professional experience of at least five years (full-time) or seven years (part-time).

Observations:presentation of the course and first seminar (14 December), Tuesday and Thursday seminars, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. (from 11 January to 21 March 2024), Thursday seminars, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. (from 4 April to 27 June 2024). The classes are held through the virtual learning environment and the University of Barcelona's videoconferencing services, with access for each participant.
