Objectives and competences
- To acquire knowledge of the application of communication and information technologies to humanities research and dissemination from a critical perspective.
- To gain an understanding of the methodologies for the design of digital humanities projects.
- To acquire the knowledge required and skills required to design, create and implement digital applications in cultural environments (such as museums).
- To learn how to use the computer resources required for the implementation and parametrization of such products and services.
- Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
- Capacity to adapt the design of professional processes, procedures and tasks to current digital environments.
- Capacity to identify, keep up to date with and apply new digital techniques to professional practice.

In accordance with Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/29 October 2007, students must hold one of the following qualifications to access university master's degree courses:
- An official Spanish degree.
- A degree issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area framework that authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue.
- A qualification from outside the framework of the European Higher Education Area. In this case, the qualification should be recognized as equivalent to an official Spanish degree. If it is not recognized, the University of Barcelona shall verify that it corresponds to a level of education that is equivalent to official Spanish degrees and that it authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue. Admission shall not, in any case, imply that prior qualifications have been recognized as equivalent to a Spanish master's degree and does not confer recognition for any purposes other than that of admission to the master's degree course.
- Spanish language proficiency at or equivalent to level C2.
- Catalan language proficiency.
- English language proficiency at or equivalent to level B1.
According to the previous knowledge that is had on statistics and XML, the students have to enroll, in addition, to one or two subjects of formative complements, that it is necessary to study compulsorily during the first semester of the studies.
Calendar- First period: 1 February - 25 April 2023.
Notification of resolutions: 9 May.
- Second period: 27 April - 19 June 2023.
Notification of resolutions: 28 June.
- Third period: 21 June - 12 September 2023.
Notification of resolutions: 15 September.
- Pre-enrolment fee: A pre-enrolment fee of 30,21 euros is charged. Students who apply to more than one master's degree must pay the fee for each pre-enrolment request. Pre-enrolment requests cannot be processed until this fee has been paid.Fees will only be refunded if the master's degree in question is suspended.
- Reserved places: A maximum of 5% of the new places of the master's degree are reserved for students who meet the general and specific access requirements and accredit the recognition of a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33%.

- Photocopy of degree certificate or equivalent qualification. In case of admission, foreign degrees that require so should be translated and authenticated through diplomatic channels before completing the enrolment.

- Academic record for previous studies (60%).
- CV. Candidates must submit a CV indicating their education, professional experience and completed lifelong learning or completed further training (40%). The CV is evaluated as follows:
- Professional experience or training in the creation of advanced products or services for digital humanities (15%).
- Professional experience or training in website or social network management (5%).
- Professional experience in humanities research areas (10%)
- Professional experience or training in programming or computer systems management (10%).

Placements in a company or another type of organization are an integral part of university studies, providing first-hand experience of working methodologies in students' chosen professional fields. They offer invaluable practical experience for the transition into work after graduation.
Placements are supervised by tutors and subject to assessment. They are therefore included in the academic record. There is also an option to complete non-curricular placements of up to 500 hours, which can be extended to 900 hours. For both curricular and non-curricular placements, an educational cooperation agreement is signed between the UB and the company, institution or other organization at which the placement will be carried out.
What can you work on ?
The professional sectors of digital humanities are very varied and are in the process of expansion. Six professional profiles are prioritized in the master's degree.
- Consultants and service companies in the areas of humanities and social sciences.
- Units and services of public administrations related to the humanities and social sciences.
- Sector that creates published products and distributes information on wireless devices (tablets, smartphones, etc.) specialized in humanities and social sciences.
- Units and services in the areas of humanities and social sciences in art galleries, libraries, archives and museums (GLAM).
- Web portals and social networks specialized in humanities and social sciences.
- Centres, groups and research and experimental development projects in social sciences and humanities.
Contact is maintained between the master's degree and companies and institutions in these six areas to make it easier for students to carry out internships (curricular and extracurricular) and master's degree final projects. The contacts provide students with job options after graduation. The companies and institutions linked to these six profiles can be found in the Placements section.
Given the dynamism of a growing sector, graduate students also have opportunities for self-employment and entrepreneurship. The master's degree provides students with information resources in these areas.Experts in digital humanities are professionals who, through their knowledge of the digital medium, make it easier for the humanities to use new ways to present their advances to the public or gain tools that allow new research and further advances.
Some examples of areas of application are:
- Generation of infographics.
- Creation of 3D models and reconstruction of monuments and traces of the past.
- Development or management of digital maps to show where or how buildings, ancient crops, battles, communications networks, etc. were located.
- Mass analysis of literary or historical texts.
- Management of web servers that display data from any branch of the humanities.
- Publication of digital books.
- Data management for research groups in digital humanities.
