The university master's degree in People and Teams Management and Development in Organizations (GDO) is a scientifically rigorous and socially relevant programme. It is intended for people who want to move into the professional area of people management, or those who are currently working in this field.

The master's degree provides knowledge of current developments in theories and concepts of people management, and practical experience in methods and techniques of analysis and psychosocial intervention in organizational contexts (private companies, government departments and non-governmental organizations, among others).

Objectives

The master's degree People and Teams Management and Development in Organizations targets the following learning objectives:

The specific objectives of the program are to teach students how to manage human resources within organizations, to recruit and select personnel and to manage individual and collective training in on-site and online environments, engaging and motivating individuals and teams to achieve organizational objectives. The program offers training in the design of management practices that will remain viable in the long term and that are respectful and responsible towards the organization's employees and society in general. The program also covers the basic financial and legal principles at work in different organizations, including non-profit organizations.

Competences

The master's degree will enable students to develop a range of specific competences, the most important of which are listed below:

  • Capacity to analyse individual and team needs and satisfaction in organizational contexts to contribute to the improvement of organizational processes.
  • Capacity to set challenging goals and objectives for the individuals and teams that make up an organization.
  • Capacity to evaluate psychological and psychosocial processes in organizational contexts.
  • Ability to evaluate situations and analyse positions, hazards, groups and interests.
  • Ability to define and develop products and services that contribute to the advancement of people and teams (for example, annual and performance evaluation systems).
  • Capacity to evaluate products and services for the management of people and teams (for example, utility analysis).
  • Participation in psychological and psychosocial processes in organizational contexts (for example, development of training plans, skills training, etc).
  • Capacity to intervene in the organizational structure (for example, designing or redesigning jobs or teams).
  • Capacity to implement new products or services.
  • Ability to use feedback as a basic tool for managing the individuals and teams in an organization.
  • Capacity to produce technical reports (for example, on the suitability of a candidate for a given position).

Applicant profile and access requirements

Recommended applicant profile

Candidates best suited for admission to the program should have an EHEA bachelor's degree or equivalent in psychology or industrial relations. Students with degrees in management and public administration, sociology, business, business management, law or other related disciplines must complete additional bridging courses to ensure that their knowledge base is on par with that required for the master's program.

Candidates should be able to learn independently; perform critical analyses and syntheses; work in teams and in multidisciplinary, entrepreneurial environments; and resolve conflicts.

Candidates should also have foreign language proficiency (English) equivalent to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Access requirements and conditions

General requirements
In accordance with Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, students wishing to be admitted to a university master's degree must hold one of the following qualifications:

  • Official Spanish university degree.

  • A degree issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area framework that authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue.

  • A qualification issued by an institution outside the framework of the European Higher Education Area. In this case, applicants must request homologation of the degree to its equivalent official Spanish university qualification or obtain express approval from the University of Barcelona, which will conduct a study of equivalence to ensure that the degree is of a comparable level to an official Spanish university qualification and that it grants access to university master's degree study in the country of issue. Admission shall not, in any case, imply that prior qualifications have been recognized as equivalent to a Spanish master's degree and does not confer recognition for any purposes other than that of admission to the master's degree course.

Specific requirements
The university master's degree in People and Teams Management and Development in Organizations has the following admission requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or pre-EHEA degree or equivalent in Psychology or Labour Relations. An equivalent university qualification in Public Management and Administration, Sociology, Business, Business Administration and Management, Law or another similar area is also accepted. If the student does not have a degree in Psychology or Labour Relations, the Coordination Committee will require the candidate to take bridging courses from the course syllabus of the University of Barcelona's bachelor's degree in Psychology. Specifically, students should take the compulsory subject Psychology of Organizations (6 credits) as well as some of the optional subjects, depending on each specific case. Students must pass the bridging courses before they prepare and submit their final project. Students can take up to 18 credits in bridging courses.

  • Command of the following languages: English (level B1), Catalan (intermediate level, B) and Spanish (level A2)


In addition to these requirements, all candidates will be given credit for the following:

  • Professional experience in the area of human resources.
  • Motivation, expressed in writing.

Notes:

  • Pre-enrolment fee: A pre-enrolment fee of 30,21 euros is charged. Students who apply to more than one master's degree must pay the fee for each pre-enrolment request. Pre-enrolment requests cannot be processed until this fee has been paid.Fees will only be refunded if the master's degree in question is suspended.
  • Reserved places: A maximum of 5% of the new places of the master's degree are reserved for students who meet the general and specific access requirements and accredit the recognition of a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33%.

Selection criteria

Selection will take place in two stages. In the first stage, the Coordination Committee will analyse the candidate's academic record and language skills to ensure that the admission requirements are met. In the second stage, candidates will be interviewed individually to assess the following criteria, using the weightings in brackets:
- Fit between candidate's expectations and interests and the skills to be developed on the program (70%).
- Previous professional experience in the area (30%)

Placements

Placements in a company or another type of organization are an integral part of university studies, providing first-hand experience of working methodologies in students' chosen professional fields. They offer invaluable practical experience for the transition into work after graduation.



Placements are supervised by tutors and subject to assessment. They are therefore included in the academic record.  There is also an option to complete non-curricular placements of up to 500 hours, which can be extended to 900 hours. For both curricular and non-curricular placements, an educational cooperation agreement is signed between the UB and the company, institution or other organization at which the placement will be carried out.
