Objectives and competences

The master's degree in Research in Language and Literature Teaching is one of only a small number of educational programmes that address this subject as a discipline in its own right. It is designed to train professional researchers capable of analysing processes related to the teaching and learning of languages and literature, with the capacity to formulate proposals to meet contemporary challenges in linguistic and literary education.
It is designed to train professional researchers capable of analysing processes related to the teaching and learning of languages and literature, with the capacity to formulate proposals to meet contemporary challenges in linguistic and literary education.

The master's degree in Research in Language and Literature Teaching has been developed as a response to the growing need for research and innovation that neither general teaching nor applied linguistics can provide, since language and literature teaching requires a theoretical and practical framework that is both specific and comprehensive, a scientific basis for daily activities in the classroom.

Access requirements and conditions

General requirements
In accordance with Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, students wishing to be admitted to a university master's degree must hold one of the following qualifications:

Specific requirements
Qualifications required for access:
  • Bachelor's degree in teacher training in pre-school and primary education.
  • Bachelor's degree (or pre-EHEA degree) in philology, modern languages, applied languages, translation and interpreting, education, educational psychology, humanities, or audiovisual communication, or equivalent qualification.

Placements

Placements in a company or another type of organization are an integral part of university studies, providing first-hand experience of working methodologies in students' chosen professional fields. They offer invaluable practical experience for the transition into work after graduation.

Placements are supervised by tutors and subject to assessment. They are therefore included in the academic record.  There is also an option to complete non-curricular placements of up to 500 hours, which can be extended to 900 hours. For both curricular and non-curricular placements, an educational cooperation agreement is signed between the UB and the company, institution or other organization at which the placement will be carried out.
