Objectives and competences
The interuniversity master's degree Advanced Studies in Catalan Language and Literature provides specialized and applied training in Catalan linguistics and literature.
It is designed primarily to provide students with the skills to conduct research into specific aspects of Catalan language and literature and to apply the skills and competences acquired to a range of related professional activities. These include secondary school teaching, the publishing sector (consultative and advisory roles for publications or special collections), language advisory and promotion services, and language correction for a wide range of companies and institutions.
The course is intended for holders of undergraduate degrees in philology and languages, or, more generally, in arts and humanities disciplines, with previous academic training in Catalan language and a particular interest in continuing their studies to doctoral level or in acquiring complementary training in professionally-focused skills.

Objectives
D'acord amb aquest objectiu, el pla d'estudis posa l'accent en la transversalitat dels continguts de les assignatures, en qüestions de mètode, i en la proposta de models pràctics per a l'anàlisi i l'estudi de fenòmens lingüístics i de textos literaris catalans de qualsevol època. Els títols i les descripcions de les assignatures en mostren l'orientació general, i les guies docents en concreten cada curs els continguts específics.

Tenir un títol de llicenciatura o de grau, preferentment en l'àmbit de la llengua i la literatura catalanes, però també es considerarà l'admissió de titulats en altres llengües romàniques o en altres titulacions de l'àmbit de les Arts i les Humanitats. Si la comissió d'admissió ho accepta, també podran admetre's estudiants d'altres estudis que posseeixin una formació complementària en l'àmbit del català.En el cas dels estudiants estrangers que no hagin realitzat cap estada Erasmus en universitats de parla catalana o bé cursat assignatures en català, se'ls demanarà un certificat de català que acrediti el nivell de suficiència C1 o C2 de l'Institut Ramon Llull.
Access requirements and conditions
General requirementsStudents wishing to be admitted to a university master's degree must hold one of the following qualifications:
- Official Spanish university degree.
- A degree issued by a higher education institution within the European Higher Education Area framework that authorizes the holder to access university master's degree courses in the country of issue.
- A qualification issued by an institution outside the framework of the European Higher Education Area. In this case, applicants must request homologation of the degree to its equivalent official Spanish university qualification or obtain express approval from the University of Barcelona, which will conduct a study of equivalence to ensure that the degree is of a comparable level to an official Spanish university qualification and that it grants access to university master's degree study in the country of issue. Admission shall not, in any case, imply that prior qualifications have been recognized as equivalent to a Spanish master's degree and does not confer recognition for any purposes other than that of admission to the master's degree course.

Placements
Placements in a company or another type of organization are an integral part of university studies, providing first-hand experience of working methodologies in students' chosen professional fields. They offer invaluable practical experience for the transition into work after graduation.
Placements are supervised by tutors and subject to assessment. They are therefore included in the academic record. There is also an option to complete non-curricular placements of up to 500 hours, which can be extended to 900 hours. For both curricular and non-curricular placements, an educational cooperation agreement is signed between the UB and the company, institution or other organization at which the placement will be carried out.
