The dual pathway in Law and Criminology has two main objectives: to meet the more specialized training needs of a considerable proportion of new students, and the social need for basic academic training in law and criminology studies in which the contents are well-integrated and interdisciplinary. The planned schedule for the course enables students to combine the classes and academic activities of both pathways and meet requirements to obtain the bachelor's degrees in accordance with the specifications of each curriculum, taking into account the subjects or credits of both degrees.

The double bachelor's degree in Law and Criminology provides solid theoretical and practical academic training in two social sciences disciplines that are highly complementary. The dual pathway curriculum combines legal, psychological, sociological, medical, statistical, methodological, and historical contents, as well as content relating to the field of social work. The University of Barcelona has extensive experience in these non-legal specializations, as it founded the first Institute of Criminology in Spain in 1955.

Placements

Placements in a company or another type of organization are an integral part of university studies, providing first-hand experience of working methodologies in students' chosen professional fields. They offer invaluable practical experience for the transition into work after graduation.

Placements are supervised by tutors and subject to assessment. They are therefore included in the academic record. There is also an option to complete non-curricular placements of up to 500 hours, which can be extended to 900 hours. For both curricular and non-curricular placements, an educational cooperation agreement is signed between the UB and the company, institution or other organization at which the placement will be carried out.

Career opportunities

What can you work on ?

The professional opportunities resulting from this double degree are those of the bachelor's degrees in Law and Criminology, although some opportunities are clearly strengthened as a result of the double bachelor's degree. In the current professional situation in the public and private sectors, there is a need for professionals from a range of disciplines to work together. In the public sector, the dual pathway meets the academic needs of public examinations for legal and criminology bodies (for example, law professionals specialized in criminology in the prison administration). In the private sector, the dual pathway provides the training required to work in law firms specialized in criminal law, multidisciplinary teams who draw up crime prevention models, third sector entities, and highly specialized consultancies.
