Introduction

The double degree in Law and Criminology provides both basic legal training and training in the social needs of security and the prevention and control of crime based on respect for the established legal framework and social policies intended to prevent and minimize the effects of crime.

The double degree in Law and Criminology provides thorough training in law, as well as multidisciplinary training to analyse social problems from a broad and comprehensive perspective. Graduates are qualified to pursue careers in all fields that deal with crime: prevention and treatment of crime; conflict management and resolution, considering the offence, the offender and the victim; the functioning of the criminal law system as a mechanism of control and social response; and the relationships between various forms of crime and social issues. It combines strictly legal content with content from psychology, sociology, medicine, statistics, methodology, history and social work. Having founded the first institute of criminology in Spain in 1955, the University of Barcelona has extensive experience in these non-legal specialities.

Placements

Placements in a company or another type of organization are an integral part of university studies, providing first-hand experience of working methodologies in students' chosen professional fields. They offer invaluable practical experience for the transition into work after graduation.

Placements are supervised by tutors and subject to assessment. They are therefore included in the academic record. There is also an option to complete non-curricular placements of up to 500 hours, which can be extended to 900 hours. For both curricular and non-curricular placements, an educational cooperation agreement is signed between the UB and the company, institution or other organization at which the placement will be carried out.

Career opportunities

What can you work on ?

The professional opportunities resulting from this double degree are those of the bachelor's degrees in Law and Criminology, although some opportunities are clearly strengthened as a result of the double bachelor's degree. In the current professional situation in the public and private sectors, there is a need for professionals from a range of disciplines to work together. In the public sector, the dual pathway meets the academic needs of public examinations for legal and criminology bodies (for example, law professionals specialized in criminology in the prison administration). In the private sector, the dual pathway provides the training required to work in law firms specialized in criminal law, multidisciplinary teams who draw up crime prevention models, third sector entities, and highly specialized consultancies.
