Introduction

The bachelor's degree in Chemistry provides knowledge of the transformations that take place in any chemical process, both material and in the natural world or in living beings. It also provides training in laboratory techniques aimed at monitoring processes and compound preparation, characterization and analysis.

The bachelor's degree in Chemistry provides theoretical and experimental training in what matter is and on how it can be analysed and transformed, from both a scientific perspective and in terms of industrial applications. Chemistry is one of the branches of science that most contributes to the welfare of developed societies. Indeed, in the contemporary world it is difficult to find a technological, industrial or scientific area that does not require chemistry either directly or indirectly. The bachelor's degree in Chemistry is designed to train competent, qualified professionals, capable of fulfilling professional roles in both their industry and in education. It also serves as a starting point to access more specialized postgraduate studies, focussed on research, development, and innovation. According to various national and international rankings, the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Barcelona is the best place in Spain to pursue this bachelor's degree, being rated among the top 100 worldwide.

Access and admission

Applicant profile and access requirements

Recommended applicant profile

Candidates to the Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry should have completed a secondary school qualification (baccalaureate or equivalent) including the subject of chemistry. Ideally, to ensure better assimilation, a good level of chemistry, physics and mathematics, manual dexterity for manipulating laboratory equipment, and basic knowledge of English and computers is recommended.

Access requirements and conditions

Admission for students with studies completed outside Spain.

Applicants holding higher educational qualifications from a university outside Spain should consult the page Admission with foreign qualifications to find out about specific admission requirements.

Pre-enrolment

Students that have studied abroad and who wish to study at the University of Barcelona may be admitted to EHEA bachelor's degree courses. Procedures for gaining admission will depend on the qualifications held by each applicant.

For further information about admission, consult the page Admission with foreign qualifications.
