More grant opportunities and predocs
We offer our own grant programme for trainee researchers (PRE-DOCS UB). You can also apply for the grants offered by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Research (FPU and FPI) and the Government of Catalonia (FI).
A programme tailored to you
47 different programmes, almost 750 doctoral theses read and 70 extraordinary doctoral prizes awarded.
We have more researchers and consolidated research groups than any other Catalan university. We have 1,111 active research projects, 250 research groups (SGR), and 16 UB research institutes.
Industrial doctorate programmes:
an alternative approach
We offer an industrial doctorate programme that consists of a cooperation agreement between a company and the University while you are working on your thesis.
An extensive range of doctoral programmes
You can take your doctoral programme part-time or full-time over three or five years, with a wide range of cross-disciplinary or specific training activities. You can submit your thesis in Catalan, Spanish or English.

Professional insertion
We offer an industrial doctorate programme that consists of a cooperation agreement between a company and the University while you are working on your thesis.
Internationalization
We are the only Spanish member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), and we are members of many international research networks. Your thesis can be co-supervised by another university. It also can be done abroad (under the Erasmus+ programme), in which case you will be eligible for an international doctorate certification.

What do UB students think about it?

I chose the UB to do my PhD because it is a university with a prestige known nationally and internationally, very well valued and with a very good human component.
