Issue of doctoral degree certificate

You have completed the thesis defence - you're a doctor! You just need to request the certificate.

A fee is payable for the issue of the doctoral degree certificate (some exemptions apply).

Payment is made via the student intranet (MónUB).

Once you have paid the fee, the Secretary's Office for Students and Teaching Staff of your faculty will issue confirmation of receipt of payment.

The receipt of degree certificate request contains the same information on the title. The dean's signature on this certificate enables its legalization and promotes the effectiveness of the receipt in front of the bodies that request you to justify you have obtained your doctoral degree certificate.

There is no additional fee for this certificate.

The receipt of the doctoral degree is bilingual and can be issued in Catalan and Spanish or Catalan and English.

When the definitive certificate is available, the Faculty's secretariat sends you a letter of warning to the domicile stated in the archives. For this reason, it is advisable to keep the data updated in the databases of the university.

You must collect the doctoral degree certificate in person and will be required to confirm your identity by showing your DNI, NIE, passport or identity document. You may authorize someone else to collect the certificate on your behalf, in which case power of attorney (arranged through a notary public) is required.

If your permanent residence is outside the province of Barcelona, the Secretary's Office for Students and Teaching Staff can send the certificate for collection from your nearest provincial directorate of education or consular office. To arrange this, you must send an email request to the Faculty Secretary.

In accordance with the regulations on language use at the University of Barcelona, the doctoral degree certificate is issued as a bilingual document in Catalan and Spanish.

Information about obtaining a free translation can be obtained from the Faculty Secretary, who will process the request on your behalf with the UB's Language Services.

A duplicate of the certificate can be requested in the following situations:

  • Change of name, surname(s) or other personal details
  • Addition of the special doctoral award or any other academic details
  • Change of nationality.
  • Loss of original document.
  • Deterioration of the original document.

For more information, consult the general regulations or contact the Secretary's Office for Students and Teaching Staff of your faculty.
