Prehistory and Archaeology Section
The Section's main objective is to promote and organize research and teaching in these disciplines at the University of Barcelona. On this website, you will find the wide range of activities we carry out: the different research groups, our publications, the journal Pyrenae, and our professional and teaching profiles.
From the Section of Prehistory and Archaeology, all the teaching, research, and administrative staff would like to welcome you to our website.
Organization
The core values of the Section of Prehistory and Archaeology are to promote the professional and research training of our students and to conduct research that delivers high-level results for the scientific community and society at large. We work, research, and teach about human societies, primarily through the archaeological record, from the most remote past to the contemporary period, in collaboration with other sections and departments of our institution.
The Archaeology Laboratory of the University of Barcelona, together with the Archaeology Library of the Faculty of History, are two of the fundamental pillars of research and teaching within the Section of Prehistory and Archaeology.
Teaching
The teaching staff of the Section of Prehistory and Archaeology in the Department of History and Archaeology carries out its teaching activities across various academic programs, such as the Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, the Master's in Advanced Studies in Archaeology, and the Doctoral Program in Society and Culture: History, Anthropology, Art, and Heritage.
Research
Research within the Section of Prehistory and Archaeology is organized through four Consolidated Research Groups, recognized by the Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR) of the Commissioner for Universities and Research of the DIUE of the Government of Catalonia. These teams are supported by various public funding sources and by income generated through contract research, which ensures their scientific continuity over time.
