We are a department with a high teaching and research impact in all areas of knowledge and with a high international impact. The Department is the body responsible for organizing, coordinating and developing research and teaching in the six areas of knowledge that make up it: civil law, private international law, commercial law and labour and social security law.

We have a unique environment for innovative, cross-disciplinary and high-quality teaching and research, and also for transferring it to society. More than 6,000 teachers and researchers work in the various branches of knowledge: health sciences, experimental sciences, engineering, social sciences, arts, and humanities.

Teaching

We are responsible for teaching related to the areas of Civil Law, Private International Law, Commercial Law and Labor and Social Security Law. We teach subjects in various courses, both official and UB-specific, with a perspective that integrates national, European and comparative law.

Research
The Department's research is carried out in the seventeen faculties and in the nearly three hundred research groups recognized by the Generalitat de Catalunya and in the institutes and research centres owned and linked to the UB, some of which are accredited as Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu units of excellence. The European Commission has recognized the respect for equal opportunities and the ability to attract talent in a favourable working environment with the HRS4R accreditation, and we are members of the League of European Research Universities (LERU).
