At the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences of the University of Barcelona, we work to generate and share knowledge about the evolution and functioning of plant, animal and human organisms, from individuals and species to populations and ecosystems, from both theoretical and applied perspectives. We hope this website helps you learn who we are and what we do.

Department

The Department works on a wide range of topics, from phylogeny and taxonomy to biomedicine, crop improvement, and ecosystem management and restoration, including conservation biology, human evolution, forest ecology, marine biology, ecotoxicology, animal behaviour, and biogeography.”

“A large part of the Department’s teaching and research staff is affiliated with various research institutes, such as the Biodiversity Research Institute (IRBio), the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB), the Water Research Institute (IdRA), and the Centre for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (CREAF).

Teaching

We take part in the teaching offered at the Faculty of Biology, as well as at the Faculty of Earth Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Faculty of Education, and the Faculty of Geography and History. We also promote innovative teaching projects that are pioneering in Catalonia, fostering an educational approach closely connected to the professional world.
