A delegation of the University of Barcelona, headed by the Vice-Rector of International Policy, Maria Callejón, held a meeting in Rabat with twenty-three Moroccan universities, representatives of the National Centre for Scientific and Technology Research (CNRST) and the Ministry of Higher Education, aiming to set common research lines up.

A delegation of the University of Barcelona, headed by the Vice-Rector of International Policy, Maria Callejón, held a meeting in Rabat with twenty-three Moroccan universities, representatives of the National Centre for Scientific and Technology Research (CNRST) and the Ministry of Higher Education, aiming to set common research lines up.

Specifically, they tackled collaborations on four areas: water and agriculture; geography, mine and ground; human and social sciences, heritage and economy, and smart cities.

The participants of the University of Barcelona were the Dean of the Faculty of Geography and History, Xavier Roigé; the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Antoni Remesar; the lecturers José Luís Araus, Jordi Bord, Miquel Salgot, Maribel Trillas and Ramón Vallejo, from the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences; the lecturer Albert Casas, from the Department of Mineralogy, Petrology and Applied Geology; and the lecturer Miquel Forcada, from the Department of Greek, Latin, Romance Languages and Semitic Languages. 

In the Moroccan field, the universities and centres that participated were the Mohammed V University, the International University of Rabat, the Cadi Ayyad University (Marrakesh), the Abdelmalek Essaâdi University (Tétouan), the National Institute of Agronomical Research (Rabat), the Agricultural and Veterinary Institute Hassan II (Rabat), the Mohammed First University, the National School of Forestry Engineers and the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes.

It is the first time that such a high level meeting is held between the University of Barcelona and the Higher Education system tiers of the Moroccan country. The meeting took place thanks to the agreements made between the Rector of the University of Barcelona, Dídac Ramírez, and the Minister of Higher Education of Scientific Research and Professional Training of Morocco, Lahcen Daoudi.
