The University of Barcelona once again played a leading role in Unirun, the Catalan university race, which celebrated its twelfth edition on Sunday 1 March along the seafront of the Sant Martí district and at Parc del Fòrum. The event brought together 7,000 participants on a day marked by the festive and competitive nature of the event, which has established itself as one of the most popular events on the university sports calendar.
In this edition, the UB was the university with the highest number participants and won the women’s team classification. It also came third in the overall classification, behind the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (winner of the Champions Cup) and Pompeu Fabra University. In the men’s university category, the UPC also took the first place.
At the individual level, the blue team’s performance was particularly noteworthy. David Campo, a former student who graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Business, won the men’s race with a time of 14 minutes and 38 seconds. In the women’s category, Martina Laplana, a biology student, was the fastest UB runner and finished second in the women’s race with a time of 17 minutes and 41 seconds. She thus made a decisive contribution to the University’s victory in the women’s team classification.
The Unirun, promoted by Esport Català Universitari (ECU) with the support of the General Secretariat for Sport and Physical Activity and Barcelona City Council, and organized by Gaudium Sports, once again demonstrated the strong engagement of the university community. Women accounted for 53.70% of participants, and 83.47% of those registered were under 25 years of age, figures that confirm the vitality and generational renewal of the event.
With these results, the UB reaffirms its commitment to university sport as a space for cohesion, identity and the promotion of healthy habits. The massive participation and achievements once again position the UB as one of the leading institutions in Catalan university sport.
