UNIMED selects the UB to host its 2026 General Assembly

The University of Barcelona’s candidature has been selected from among the four candidates to host the General Assembly of the Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED) in 2026. The decision was taken at the University of Calabria, where the assembly of this international network was held on 9 and 10 July, attended by a UB delegation. The meeting served as an opportunity to reflect on the challenges and opportunities for higher education in the context of the work towards a new Pact for the Mediterranean, 30 years after the Barcelona Process.

The assembly also discussed issues such as Euro-Mediterranean university alliances, UNIMED Masterclass (a leadership training programme aimed at university managers), and the manifesto in favour of climate action by Euro-Mediterranean universities, an initiative the UB has already joined.
This was also the first time that a group of students from the UB, under the coordination of StartUB!, participated in the Start Cup Competition, which has been held annually since 2018 as part of the UNIMED Assembly.
It is a competition of entrepreneurial ideas developed by students enrolled in the universities of the network.
The UB is a member of the Mediterranean Universities Union, which brings together more than 180 universities on the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean, since its creation in 1991, and currently holds the vice-presidency.
