Members of the UB community who want to take part in the UB Alma Mater tournament have time to register until 20 September using this form. This is the first intra-university e-sports competition born thanks to the collaboration between the University of Barcelona and Omashu, a start-up company created in the UB’s business incubator. The aim is to bring e-sports closer to amateur players and promote values such as equality and sustainability.

With this event, the UB consolidates its position at the forefront of technology, with the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the world of e-sports. During the games, detailed analyses of the players’ performance metrics are carried out, which serve, for example, to obtain real-time information that allows strategies to be optimized throughout the game. This is a clear commitment by the UB and Omashu to innovation.

The project includes tools to assess and improve the psychological well-being of participants, as it uses biometric data to monitor stress and fatigue levels in real time. The aim of the UB and Omashu is to guarantee and increase the health and well-being of players. Therefore, the approach is to deepen the knowledge of the optimal combinations of rest and strategies, to improve performance in the game and prevent burnout.

The UB Alma Mater tournament is based on a manual of good practices that participants must adhere to and which involves forming mixed teams, with the aim of furthering the fight for equality in the world of videogames. There is a commitment to economic sustainability and responsible innovation, which is why cost-efficient management technologies and optimized processes are implemented to reduce environmental impact while maintaining quality levels in all services.

All of this is put into practice in a sector that is booming and is undoubtedly a great opportunity for the Catalan language. UB Alma Mater is not only the first intra-university online gaming competition: it is also a springboard for the Catalan language in an area where it has a minimal presence.

The tournament will be broadcast live on social networks, day after day. It will be a great battle, in which the different faculties will face the so-called “Summoner’s Cry” until the final, which will take place in the SAGA Saló del Gaming on 29 November 2024.

Members of the UB community can sign up until 20 September.
