On 13 June, the closing ceremony for the 2023-2024 academic year of Catalan University Sport was held, in which fifteen students from the University of Barcelona were awarded prizes. Thanks to the results achieved by the athletes at the Spanish University Championships (CEU) and the Catalan University Championships (CCU), the UB is now the leading public university in Catalonia in terms of the number of medals it has won, and the second in Spain.
The UB has stood out in terms of results and representation at this year’s CEU: of the 143 students from the University who competed (82 women and 61 men), 62 (44%) received a medal. Swimming was the sport in which the UB won the most medals, while in team sports a medal was won in rugby and women’s futsal. The good results also obtained in martial arts mean that the UB will be represented at the European University Games, which will take place in Hungary in July.

In Catalonia, the UB dominated the medal table for yet another year. A total of 462 students took part (217 women and 245 men), and 283 won a medal. The basketball player and student of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Adrià Codinachs, has received the award for the best Catalan university sportsmen of the CCU 2024, together with Marina García Urzainqui (UIC).

All UB student athletes have the opportunity to participate in the Tutoresport UB programme, which establishes measures to facilitate their dual careers and make sport and studies compatible in the best possible way. A total of 178 students (104 women and 74 men) took part in the 2023-2024 academic year.
