The University of Barcelona is, once again, the first university in Spain with most researchers among the most influential experts in the world. A total of ten UB researchers are featured on the prestigious Clarivate Analytics list, which identifies those experts who led the studies with most international scientific impact on several study fields.
The Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) are one of the most distinguished lists in the academic and scientific community. The list includes the 6,636 names of the world’s leading researchers in 20 fields of science and social science, ranging from clinical medicine and neuroscience to agriculture, economics and the environment. These scientists come from 59 different countries, although the vast majority (74.4%) are concentrated in just ten countries. They may appear in several specific fields or in the cross-field category, which includes authors who have had a substantial influence in several fields over the last decade.
Of the 6,636 researchers on the list, 96 work in Spanish institutions as their primary affiliation, of which more than 50% are linked to public universities. The group of those linked to the various institutions of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) is the largest in Spain, followed by the University of Barcelona.
The Clarivate Analytics selection process includes a rigorous evaluation and data analysis of highly cited papers that have been published in scientific and social science journals indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded™ and the Social Sciences Citation Index™ over a period of eleven years. In addition, this international ranking is a key component of globally recognized rankings in the academic world, such as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), better known as the Shanghai Ranking.
