The results of the UB Rectorʼs Offices elections, which take place today, Thursday 22nd November, will be announced at about 10 p.m. when the counting has already been finished.
From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., without interruption, 64,577 people from the different university groups can vote in the twenty-two polling stations placed in the different UB centres and faculties, and some papers in Braille will be available for blind and partially sighted people.
In the evening, when the polling stations will have been closed, the Aula Magna of the Historic Building will be opened to the public. This room will be the place where, at about 10 p.m., the results of counting up the votes and the turnout will be announced. From 9 p.m., all this information will be broadcast live through the website of the UB and its video portal UBTV.
Four candidates aim to hold the post of rector of the UB: Dr Joaquim Gutiérrez, professor at the Department of Physiology and Immunology; Dr Victòria Girona, professor at the Department of Physiochemistry; Dr Josep Antoni Bombí, professor at the Department of Pathological Anatomy, Pharmacology and Microbiology; and Dr Dídac Ramírez, professor at the Department of Mathematics for Economics, Finance and Actuarial Sciences.
It will be the third time that, according to the current regulations, the new rector will be elected by the university community through direct election and universal suffrage. Electors are divided into four categories depending on the university group to which they belong. According to the UBʼs statutes, the values of the different groups are the following: permanent professors (2,228 people whose votes represent 51 % of the total); other teaching and research staff (3,372 people and 9 % of the total); students (56,653 people and 30 %), and administrative and service staff (2,324 and 10 %).
If any of the candidates do not get an overall majority on 22nd November, a second round will be done on 27th November, in which the two more voted candidates will participate. Then, the candidate who gets the highest number of votes will be elected as rector.
