The team Santsenques wins the 14th Internal Debate League of the UB
Does the current educational system guarantee peopleʼs progression? This is the topic on which the finalists of the 14th Internal Debate League of the University of Barcelona had to debate. The debate took place on February 14, in the Aula Magna of the Historical Building. The closing session of the competition which, over three days of debates, gathered thirty students from different faculties of the UB.

The team Santsenques, formed by the students Raúl López Álvarez, (Political Sciences), Ana Al Bitar Dos Campos (Pedagogy), and Melania Ferrer Puertas (Sociology), competed against the team Fusión, formed by Genís Miquel Bergada (History) and Carlos Ortega Pereira (Law). The jury highlighted the participation of Raúl López Álvarez and Luis Felipe García Aristizábal (Law) with the ex aequo prize to the best speaker. Genís Miquel Bergada obtained the award to the top young promise. The latter competed in the 4th Speech Competition of the UB, which took place as part of the League.
The honorary jury of this final debate was formed by Daniel Sánchez, experienced debate speaker and former president of the UB Debate Association (ADUB); Carlos Santacana, director of the Department of History and Archaeology of the UB, and Raquel Chasserot, veteran debate speaker and winner of the Vives Network League of Debate in 2013, among other awards.
The organization will now select, out of the finalists, the students to represent the ub in the 16th Vives Network League of University Debate, to take place at the Rovira i Virgili University from April 27 to 30, where the students will compete against the other teams of the universities from Catalan-speaking areas.
Internal Debate League of the UB
For fourteen years, the Association of Debate of the University and the Vice-rectorʼs Office for Students and Language Policy, with the support from the Student Support Services, have organized the Internal Debate League of the UB. This is a ludic and training competition in which the teams, formed by university students from different studies of the UB and led by a captain, compete against other teams, following a competition calendar, joining debates on a topic of current issues proposed by the organization. The practice of this debate is an activity to improve public speaking, it provides students with confidence and tools to control the language. The debate enables the students to acquire and practice strategies of mediation and business and conflict resolution techniques. This activity, with credit recognition, is regarded with a high training potential.
