"In The Return (2007), water is what allows the videoʼs protagonist to return, albeit momentarily, from a kind of nether world; itʼs water, in fact, which gives body to her ghostly form, the curtain she walks through that infuses her grainy silhouette with life and living colour, encapsulated in the carmine swathe of the dress she wears. Like many of Violaʼs works, The Return can be read as a spiritual exercise of sorts, a powerful, personal interpretation within a western, Christian context of what it means to cross the threshold between life and death."

Lourdes Cirlot, vice-rector for Institutional Relations and Culture

This work is part of the exhibition "Contemporary Art at the UB. Sorigué Foundation", composed by a selection of eight works. The selected works represent the Art Contemporay Sorigué collection and will be exhibited on some of the most beautiful places of the Historic Building until 30th April.
