Neurons and eye cells are the core theme of The Origin of Life, the new artistic work by Kelly Arrontes, unveiled at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) on Tuesday, February 26. The composition, acrylic paint, combines painting with texture and the relieves with silk paper, typical of Arrontes, who shows a work with volume, which can be seen and touched so that any person, regardless of their sight, can enjoy it and feel the emotions the author tries to show.

Attendants and participants in the unveiling event, presided over by the rector of the UB, Joan Elias, were Maria Terrades, director of the PCB; Domènec Espriu, vice-rector for Research at the UB; Joan Corominas, president of the Board of Trustees of the UB; the author of the wall painting, Kelly Arrontes, and Josep Pitach, head of the ONCE Unit of Culture and Sports in Catalonia, among other institutional representatives.

The Origin of Life is a 125-meter wall painting decorating the walls of the corridor in the floor 0, which joins the buildings Cluster I and Cluster II of PCB. During the artistic creation process, painter Kelly Arrontes, with a 9 % of sight and member of ONCE, used as resource a series of small electronic microscopy images, so as to create high volume large images for the spectator.

“Due my sensorial singularities as a blind artist, eye cells are interesting to me. As for neurons, I am interested in their plastic adaptability, since they are different from one another; these are the most diverse cells in nature”, says Kelly Arrontes, also author of the artistic work Water is Life, unveiled in PCB in April 2018.
