Today, Tuesday 29, the new Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Antonio Solanas, took office, as well as the other members of the new team in the Faculty. In the same ceremony, Xavier Luri and Santiago Sánchez-Pagés took office as directors of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB) and the Barcelona Economic Analysis Team (BEAT).

Today, Tuesday 29, the new Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Antonio Solanas, took office, as well as the other members of the new team in the Faculty. In the same ceremony, Xavier Luri and Santiago Sánchez-Pagés took office as directors of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences (ICCUB) and the Barcelona Economic Analysis Team (BEAT).

Antonio Solanas Pérez, professor at the Department of Social Psychology and Quantitative Psychology, taught different courses of statistics, modelling and simulation of processes and took part on several teaching innovation projects. Regarding research, he has been main researcher in projects on the development of index for quantification on reciprocity and social exchange, and on the analysis of the efficiency of psychological treatments when using designs of unique cases. The most relevant studies have been published in specialized journals, such as Behavior Research Methods, Psychological Methods and Behavior Modification. Regarding university management, he has been the director of the department over a period of eight years (2007-2015), after being the secretary of the department. Apart of his appointment as Dean, today the vice-deans Antonio del Cerro, David Gallardo and Maribel Peró, and the secretary of the Faculty, Marta Ferrer, took office as well.

Solanas defined the objectives for this terms of office: “Favouring internationalization in the field of teaching and in research, promoting projects on teaching and research innovation, promoting student and teaching staff mobility and exchange, getting the professional field closer to students and promoting university activity return to society”.
 

ICCUB and BEAT

With a PhD in Physics by the University of Barcelona in 1993, Xavier Luri continued his career at the UB within the field of space missions, especially fir the Gaia Mission of the European Space Agency (ESA), of which he was one of the proposers. He is now associate professor at the Department of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics, co-PI of the Gaia group at ICCUB and member of the Gaia Data Processing Consortium Executive Committee (Gaia-DPAC), where he manages the group on charge of the archive development. He has been main researcher of several projects of the Spanish National Plan, dedicated to the development of Gaia data processing and main researcher of the European project GENIUS FP7, on the development of tools for data archive. He has also been a member of the executive board of the Spanish Astronomical Society. Apart from his tasks on research and management, Luri is a very active science disseminator and one of the founders of Big Van Company, which groups active scientists working in science dissemination. Since 2013, he is also founder member of DAPCOM SL, a UB and UP spin-off company, in which he participates as scientific and business advisor.

Santiago Sánchez-Pagés teaches at the Faculty of Economics and Business. His fields of expertize are applied microeconomic theory, political economy, and experimental economy and conflicts. Among his recent publications are Gender differences and stereotypes in strategic reasoning; Social capital, conflict and welfare; An axiomatization of difference-form contest success functions, and Do personality traits affect productivity? Evidence from the lab. His latest research projects are “Inequality, conflicts and identity: experimental evidence and theory” (Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, 2016-2018); “External conflict and inequality” (Catalan Institute for Peace, 2015-2016); “Human physiology and cooperation: how hormonal levels and symmetry affect behaviour in womenʼs prisonerʼs dilemma” (Ministry of Science and Innovation, 2012), and “Biological basis of economic behaviour” (Abbey - Santander Research Foundation, 2008).

The following took office in the same ceremony: Maria Palacín, as rectorʼs delegate for communication affairs and social interaction; Marta Pérez, as rectorʼs delegate for sustainability; Joan Sansa, as the rectorʼs delegate for teaching staff affairs; Maria Pilar Rivas, as director of the Equality Unit; Antoni Conejo, as head of studies for the bachelorʼs degree in History of Art, and Aurora Vall, as head of studies of the bachelorʼs degree on Library and Information Sciences.
