Yesterday, 5 February, the 3rd Interdisciplinary Meeting of Predoctoral Researchers (JIPI) took place in the Paranymph of the Historic Building. It is an initiative thought and developed by predoctoral researchers from several faculties at the University of Barcelona (UB) and other research centres. The main objectives of the meeting are to inform companies and researchers about the studies being developed, to encourage the exchange of ideas, and to promote the access to the business sector and research interdisciplinarity.

Several groups of predoctoral researchers made around forty flash talks grouped into five fields of knowledge: biology, environmental sciences, physics, cellular and molecular sciences, and social and human sciences. The event included debates and a speed networking session aimed at meeting other researchers and professionals.

This year, discussion was centred on the transfer of scientific knowledge and open data. Ignasi Labastida, head of the Office for the Diffusion of Knowledge of the UB; Enric Banda, manager of the Area of Science, Research and Environment of La Caixa, and Jesús Purroy, partner of Barcelona Innovation, participated in the debate. The entrepreneurs Miquel Oliver, from the company Logim Solutions, José Mariano López, from Zero2infinity, and Jordi Naval, president of the Entrepreneurs School Foundation, took part in the session devoted to entrepreneurship.

JIPI 2015 is supported by the campus of international excellence Barcelona Knowledge Campus (BKC), its doctoral schools and the institutions involved in it —the UB, the UPC and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)—, as well as by the Centre for Mathematical Research (CMR), the Catalan Association of Research Centres (ACER), the Institute for Catalan Studies (IEC), and he Catalan societies of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, affiliated with the IEC.
