The Alt Penedès and Garraf Health Consortium (CSAPG), which comprises the Alt Penedès Regional Hospital, the Sant Camil Residential Hospital and the Sant Antoni Abat Hospital, has been granted the status of university hospital complex by the University of Barcelona. This recognition has been granted by the Directorate-General for Universities of the Government of Catalonia, formally consolidating the consortium’s link with the University of Barcelona as a leading teaching and healthcare institution.

University hospital accreditation is a mark of quality and excellence awarded to institutions that meet the requirements of infrastructure, teaching activities, and academic and research capacity. Currently, the CSAPG has five associate professors from the UB, accredited tutoring in specialized healthcare training, and a well-established teaching programme, with more than 550 students participating in placements each year (559 in the 2024–2025 academic year).

The link with the UB will consolidate the CSAPG centres as comprehensive training environments, fostering the talent attraction in the region, and enhancing the quality of healthcare and teaching. It will also promote research and doctoral programmes, strengthen support for CSAPG doctoral students, and improve the quality and viability of projects by expanding opportunities for professional and personal development. In this context, the UB’s project to launch a new degree in Physiotherapy represents an opportunity for the CSAPG to become a leading centre for physiotherapy care and teaching, playing a key role in practical and clinical training and potentially becoming a specific teaching centre for the degree.

With this addition, the UB now has eight university hospitals: Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Bellvitge Hospital, Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Hospital Mútua de Terrassa, Moisès Broggi Hospital Complex, Mollet University Hospital, Hospital Sagrat Cor and, now, Alt Penedès and Garraf Hospital Complex.
