Doctoral Student Irene Ferri, from the doctoral program in Physics, will represent the University of Barcelona in the Coimbra Group’s competition, the “3-Minute Thesis”. The student was selected among other researchers last Tuesday 21 March in an event where Gemma Cardona, from the doctoral program in Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, was finalist.
Irene Ferri explains her doctoral thesis: “My research is focused on complex systems, formed by numbers of large particles. The particles I study are humans: I used physical models to study different kinds of human behaviour. I use statistical physics concepts, mainly, and I extrapolate them to see how we are a system that interacts too; as a result of these interactions, what we know as society is generated”.
The competition “3-Minute Thesis” challenges doctoral students to explain their research in English, in no more than three minutes, to a non-expert audience.
The competition “3-Minute Thesis” challenges doctoral students to explain their research in English, in no more than three minutes, to a non-expert audience. In this way, the doctoral students’ findings are supported and they are encouraged to talk about the research they conduct and tell the people about its importance for the community.
Furthermore, the deadline to take part in the competition “4-Minute Thesis”, from the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, is 7 April. All the information is available in the website of La UB divulga.
