Symposium on the advances in molecular cardiology promoted by La Marató de TV3

La Marató 2014 de TV3 assigned more than11 million euros to 43 biomedical research projects on heart diseases. Thirteen of these projects counted with the participation of researchers of the University of Barcelona and UB Group. Treating the advances promoted by this solidarity meeting in fields such as the study of cardiac regeneration, inflammatory processes, development of heart, is the objective of the symposium taking place on Friday March 3, at 9.20 h, at the Aula de Graus room of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona.

This meeting is an initiative from the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB), and has been inaugurated by the vice-dean for Research of the Faculty of Biology, Bru Cormand; the president of the Marató de TV3 Foundation, Núria Llorach, the director of the Marató de TV3 Foundation, Lluís Bernabé, and the director of IBUB, Marçal Pastor-Anglada, from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the University of Barcelona.

The symposium counted with the participation of experts who promoted different projects in La Marató 2014, such as the researcher Ofèlia Maria Martínez (Faculty of Biology and IBUB); Anna Planavila (Faculty of Biology and IBUB); Manuel Vázquez (Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences and IBUB), and Antoni Bayés (Germans Trias Hospital). Professor Leon de Windt, distinguished expert on molecular cardiology from the University of Maastricht in Holland, was also invited to the scientific meeting.

La Marató 2014 received 121 projects, which were assessed by 59 international scientists, experts in this subject according to its quality, methodology and relevance.
