On Tuesday, 16 September, StartUB! hosted the inauguration of the “From Science to Market” programme, aimed at master’s students, doctoral students and young researchers, to promote entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer. Some 30 students will follow this inter-university programme, and in December, they will present their innovation projects at a demo day in front of mentors, university representatives and members of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The opening session included an introduction to entrepreneurship, given by Marta Zaragoza. On the following days, participants worked on topics such as innovation, creativity and design thinking with leading experts such as Alfons Cornella and Diana Pinos.
The programme, which includes more than 100 hours of practical training, combines face-to-face and online sessions with visits to strategic spaces in the Catalan ecosystem, including Tech Barcelona’s Pier01 project, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), the CIM Centre, the Science and Technology Park of the University of Girona, and the ALBA synchrotron. Over the coming months, participants will receive specialized training and personalized mentoring and will maintain direct contact with the Catalan innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. They will also strengthen their transversal skills (communication, teamwork and entrepreneurial mindset), which, with a practical approach, will complement their academic dimension. During the programme, students receive support in turning their academic projects into opportunities for innovation with an impact on society.
“From Science to Market” is an initiative promoted by the University of Barcelona, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, the Pompeu Fabra University, the University of Girona and the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia, with the support of the Government of Catalonia and co-funding from the European Union. Promoted with the collaboration of StartUB!, the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG), the UAB Research Park and Emprèn UPC, it has already trained more than 150 participants in its six editions and has contributed to the creation of 12 start-ups, including Gate2Brain, Mitiga Solutions and KOA Biotech.
