Since it was known that the Public Prosecution asks for two years and nine months of prison for the political scientists and jurists that were members of the Electoral Syndicate, there have been many reactions against it worldwide, such as the letter to the President of the Spanish Government sent by the American Political Science Association (APSA), the biggest association of political scientists in the United States with more than 11,000 affiliated academicians, and the statements of its corresponding centers in the United Kingdom (PSA) and Canada (CPSA). There are other statements made by more than a thousand academicians worldwide, among them being the North-American scientist, linguist and philosopher Noam Chomsky, the Greek former minister of Economy Yanis Varoufakis, the North-American political scientists Jane Mansbridge and the Catalan politician and sociologist Marina Subirats, as well as many lecturers of the University of Barcelona and the Pompeu Fabra University, signers of the manifesto “Contra la repressió al professorat universitari”, in which, without taking any positioning on the independence of Catalonia, report the persecution of basic democratic and civil rights in Spain, condemn the imprisonment for political issues and require the removal of the threat of incarceration and the closing of the open criminal case against the trustees. The members of the UB launched, in November, the campaign #PosarUrnesNoÉsDelicte, in which they showed protesting posters to support the retaliated lecturers.
