As part of the commemoration of the International Day against LGBTI-phobia on Friday 17 May, the University of Barcelona has organized a week of activities that will culminate with a central event on Thursday 16 May. Among its participants will be the trans activist Tania Navarro, LGBTIQ+ artist and the researcher Rubén Antón, and the multifaceted DJ Àlex Marteen.

The Faculty of Fine Arts will host in the gardens the event “TransUB: conQUEERint estimes, espacis i institucions”, which will begin at 5.30 p.m. with the presentation of the report Percepció de seguretat i visibilització de l’alumnat trans* i no- binari a les universitats catalanes: Universitat de Barcelona i Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Perception of safety and visibility of trans* and non-binary students in Catalan universities: University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University).

Afterwards, the trans activist and reference in the history of the LGBTIQ+ movement Tania Navarro and the LGTBIQ+ artist and researcher Rubén Antón will discuss the challenges and needs of the trans community, and there will be a space for open debate to share experiences.

By the end of the event, there will be an art exhibition area and a performance by queer artists, with the aim of promoting a space for socialising that contributes to giving visibility to projects by trans and non-binary people in the university community. The event will end with a music party led by DJ Àlex Marteen

This event has been organised by the Vice-Rector’s Office for Equality, Inclusion and Gender; the Equality Unit; the LGBTIQ+ Working Group; the Equality Commission; and the UB’s Faculty of Fine Arts, in order to raise awareness among the university community of the violence and discrimination suffered by LGBTIQ+ people, as well as to encourage the creation of spaces in which specific issues and problems of this group can be addressed.
