Xavier Ros Oton, professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Barcelona, and ICREA researcher, has been one of the awardees of the National Research Awards 2024, announced today at a press conference by the Catalan Minister for Research and Universities, Núria Montserrat.

Specifically, Ros Oton has been awarded ex aequo in the young talent research category, together with Eva Maria Novoa, ICREA research professor and leader of the Epitranscriptomics and RNA Dynamics research laboratory group at the Centre for Genomic Regulation. The UB professor is the first mathematician to receive this award.

Ros Oton, one of the most cited mathematicians of his generation, is a leading figure in the study of elliptic partial differential equations and variational theory. He is the head of the Partial Differential Equations research group at the UB, and is the principal investigator of a Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council. He is also an ICREA research professor, and has been a lecturer at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) and an R. H. Bing instructor at the University of Texas at Austin (USA).

Ros Oton has received several awards for young researchers in mathematics, including the Guido Stampacchia Gold Medal, the José Luis Rubio de Francia Research Award from the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society, and the SeMA Antonio Valle Young Researcher Award from the Spanish Society of Applied Mathematics. In 2019, he was awarded the Princess of Girona Foundation Award for scientific research.
