The University of Barcelona has been the star of the 11th edition of the Unirun, the fun run of the Catalan universities that has taken place this Sunday, 2 March, in Barcelona. The UB has won the title of champion for the tenth time, leading the general classification by universities, followed by the Pompeu Fabra University and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
Martina Laplana, a biology student at the UB, was the fastest runner in the institution and the second fastest in the women’s classification, with a time of 17:51. In the men’s category, Benjamin Perret, a physiotherapy student at the Bellvitge Campus, was the fastest UB runner.

This year, the UB has broken all participation records, with a total of 1,886 members of the university community registered for the fun race. This figure represents the highest number of participants of all the Catalan universities. Of these participants, 1,175 were women (62.30%) and 711 men (37.70%). A total of 1,558 participants were students, 176 former students, 100 members of the PDI and PTGAS (including the rector, Joan Guàrdia) and 52 sympathisers.

By faculties, the one with the most participants was the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, with 273 participants. It was followed by the Faculty of Economics and Business (230) and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences (218). The Faculty of Biology (156) and the Faculty of Chemistry (125) complete the top five.

The Unirun, promoted by the Catalan University Sport (ECU) with the support of the General Secretariat of Sports and Physical Activity and the Barcelona City Council, brought together more than 6,000 runners on a five-kilometre route through the Sant Martí district and the Parc del Fòrum. The race, sponsored by Adidas and organized by Gaudium Sports, had been sold out since 3 January. 82.14% of the participants were under 25 years old.
