The rector of the University of Barcelona, Joan Guàrdia, attended this afternoon a key game of the UB Alma Mater tournament. In this game, the four finalist teams that will go to the grand finale next Thursday (in Saló SAGA), were decided. Guàrdia wanted to recognize the work and commitment of the students who have been involved from the beginning to make a pioneering competition in public universities a reality.
Guàrdia thanked both Omashu and the team of students with collaboration grants who organized the tournament. He also thanked the sponsors who have contributed to making this initiative possible, which is “the activity of the University of Barcelona with the lowest average age”, and added that the UB Alma Mater is proof that students are fully involved when they are given proposals adapted to their views.

The Rector ended his speech — which he wanted to keep short so as not to take time away from the game, which was about to start — by reminding the audience that, with this initiative, the UB has presented “a different way of doing university sports, in which other universities have already shown interest”.
