The University of Barcelona continues to be the leading Spanish university in the World University Rankings, published by the British specialist magazine Times Higher Education. The UB improves its position and rises to 149th place.
The rector of the University of Barcelona, Joan Guàrdia, has valued very positively “the upward trend of the UB in this ranking, in which we are placed in the group of the 150 best universities worldwide”. Guàrdia stressed “the good score achieved in transfer, which is essential for the university to become a driving force for change in society". He pointed out that the UB’s good results in this ranking and in others have been achieved despite insufficient resources, thanks to the involvement of the entire university community.
In terms of the conceptual pillars into which the different indicators of the ranking are grouped, the UB obtains the best evaluation in research quality, obtaining 90.20 points and 108th place in the world. In this area of research, the UB stands out in aspects such as excellence, influence, strength, impact, productivity and derived income. The UB also excels in transfer, with a score of 80.50, highlighting the income derived and the number of patents. In the teaching section, it has achieved great results in indicators related to doctoral studies, such as the ratio of doctoral students to teaching staff and the number of students accessing them.
The Spanish universities that follow the UB are the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (176) and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (199). The University of Oxford maintains its leadership in the Times Higher Education ranking as the best in the world. It is followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University.
