The University of Barcelona is ranked 165th in the QS World University Rankings out of more than 1,500 higher education institutions analyzed. With this result, the UB is ranked in the top 11% of the world’s best universities and 73th in Europe. It is also the leader institution in Spain three indicators of the ranking: sustainability, international research networks and academic reputation.

On the indicator of participation in international research networks, the UB received 96.8 points out of 100 and was ranked 44th in the world. In the sustainability criterion, the UB received 92.2 points out of 100 and was ranked 76th. In terms of academic reputation, it was ranked 85th, with a score of 73.7.

It should be noted that this last indicator, academic reputation, has a significant weight in the final result: 30%. On the other hand, sustainability and participation in international research networks each account for 5%. The other indicators in the ranking are reputation among employers (with a weight of 15%), faculty-student ratio (10%), scientific citations (20%), internationalization of teaching and research staff (5%), internationalization of students (5%) and employability (5%).

Since the QS ranking began a new methodology twelve years ago — which has been adjusted with new indicators in this edition — the UB has had an upward trend: it has climbed positions on six occasions, remained the same on two occasions and fallen on four.

According to the QS World University Rankings, the best universities in the world are, in this order, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Imperial College London and the University of Oxford.
