The University of Barcelona is ranked 103rd in the world and is the Spanish leader in the new edition of Best Universities. This ranking, published by the portal Research.com, analyses 2,000 universities and is based on the performance in different disciplines of the best scientists affiliated to each institution.
In Spain, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona holds the second position, and the 225 worldwide. It is followed by the University of Valencia, in position 318. Sixty-three Spanish universities are ranked in the ranking.

The position of each university is calculated by joining the h-index values of its affiliated researchers that exceed the threshold defined for each discipline, according to the GScholar database. Specifically, for each discipline, a list of outstanding researchers is established according to the results obtained in the h-index, the indicator that quantifies scientific productivity and the impact of published articles.

As for the UB, a total of 274 researchers are listed as outstanding scientists (some of them excel in more than one discipline). In the disciplines of the ranking, the UB is the Spanish leader, and it is among the top 50 universities in the world in microbiology (31st position in the world), medicine (46th position) and chemistry (46th). It is also the Spanish leading institution in biology and biochemistry, ecology and evolution, psychology, immunology and neuroscience.
