Francisco Pérez García, professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutic Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Barcelona, has been appointed Scientix deputy ambassador in Spain. Scientix is a community for science education in Europe that aims at improving quality and innovation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics studies.
Scientix is a programme fostered by the European Schoolnet (EUN), a network composed by thirty-one European ministries of education involved in promoting education innovation and improving excellence in teaching and learning.
The European initiative appoints some representatives (ambassadors and deputy ambassadors) in each European country in order to promote Scientix activities among education professionals. In the case of Spain, Daniel Aguirre has also been appointed ambassador, and Miguel Ángel Queiruga and Toni Soto have been nominated deputy ambassadors. The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness is the national contact point in Spain of the programme Scientix.
Pérez García, the first UB professor appointed Scientix ambassador, describes his functions: “My priorities are to collaborate with the FECYT in every initiative aimed at boosting science and technology; to help Scientix to elaborate reports and evaluate European projects, for instance Horizon 2020 projects, and to promote every Scientix-funded activity or project aimed at promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics at the European level”.
